  • Introduction
    The First International Conference on Case Study Teaching and Learning was organised by the Case Writers’ Association of Malaysia (CWAM) on May 15 – 16, 2006 in conjunction with CWAM’s 20th Anniversary Celebration. The theme of the conference was ‘The Case for the Case Method: Learning from Experience’.

    The conference, organised in collaboration with the Graduate School of Management, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); Open University Malaysia (OUM) and the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) Malaysia was held at Cititel Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur. The conference was aimed at propagating the use of local cases in training and development activities and to impart the knowledge and skills of case writing to the participants. Case submissions were also received for the case competition held in conjunction with the conference.

    The case submissions covered all areas of organizational life, with emphasis on areas of cross-discipline and areas of inquiry and issues that confront the contemporary enterprise including topics on innovation, leadership and strategy, globalisation, entrepreneurship, governance/ethics/accountability, and management of knowledge and talent.

    Several international and local experts shared their expertise on case writing and case teaching at the conference. The keynote speaker was Professor Dr. Clifford Darden, Professor of Organization and Management, Pepperdine University, USA. Other speakers included Dr. Willy McCourt, Senior Lecturer & Consultant, Institute for Development Policy and Management, University of Manchester, United Kingdom; Professor Dr. Philip Hallinger, Executive Director, College of Management, Mahidol University, Thailand; Assoc Prof. Dr. Arfah Salleh, Dean, Graduate School of Management, Univsersiti Putra Malaysia; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aliah Hanim M. Salleh, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Dr. June Poon, Faculty of Business Management, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; and Dr. Nik Rahimah bt. Nik Yacob, the Managing Director of Beaumind Soft Sdn Bhd.
